Back to the future: SpaceX presents Crew Dragon interior

Crew Dragon is not yet ready to carry people – but it’s getting there. And its interior design is delightfully sci fi-like.

Space-related design is associated with futuristic sleekness, and Crew Dragon, its interior design newly unveiled to the public, is no exception.

The colour palette, meanwhile, is pleasantly black-and-white, reminding us of the 2004 cinematic adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s “I,Robot.” The film itself wasn’t a great success, but there was something hypnotic about its use of black and white in its depictions of technology – and Crew Dragon has a similar, stylish appeal.

Crew Dragon is one of two privately designed spacecraft being contracted by NASA to fly astronauts to the International Space Station by 2017.

Lack of congressional funding means that NASA currently relies on the Russian Space Agency, Roscosmos, to send astronauts up.
